We had a great tour in Ephesus by Selcuk. He was so knowledgeable about the ruins.
Ephesus was an ancient Greek city. In the Roman period, it had a population of over 250,000 people in the 1st century BC, which made it one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world. Ephesus was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation.
The Library of Celsus. The library was built to store 12,000 scrolls and to serve as a monumental tomb for Celsus. Celsus is buried in a sarcophagus beneath the library.
Once again, cats everywhere.
In Greek mythology, Nike was a goddess who personified victory. The company Nike, was named after her and they got the traditional Nike symbol from the swoosh in her dress.
During the Roman empire there was a large medical school in Ephesus. The symbol of the hospitals was the snake on a staff. This symbolized the god Asklepios who was the god of health, medicine, and physicians.
After visiting the ruins, we went to a rug factory and watched them make rugs from silk worms.
Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It was a Greek temple built for the goddess Artemis. Only fragments of the temple remain.
House of the Virgin Mary- It is believed that Mary was taken here by St John.
Spring water fountains- believed to have healing properties.

The Wishing Wall - sending a wish to Mary.
After a great day in Ephesus, we came back on the ship and had a great seafood dinner! This was the second night we had lobster. YUM! Have I mentioned the food on this cruise was amazing?! Loved every dish I tried.
