The Battle of the Office Candy Jar

As a Dietitian, I try to plan out healthy balanced meals for Jordan and I. One of my biggest pet peeves is the junk food/candy at Jordan's work. I plan/prepare a calorically healthy lunch almost everyday for him, and then I find out it was someone's birthday and they had cake, or someone bought girl scout cookies and he had to have a few, or someone just had extra Easter candy at their desk. This drives me nuts!!! So, the other day Jordan brought home the Wall Street Journal which had the perfect news article.

The Battle of the Office Candy Jar
"Sweets May Boost Workplace Morale, But They're Sabotaging Our Diets"

The Candy Calculus:

Eating just 2 pieces of candy every workday- without cutting calories elsewhere or exercising more- can really add up!

Total calories over 4 weeks: 1,920 calories
At this rate, total calories for a year: 24,960 calories
Weight gain: 7.13 pounds /year

Also, when candy was displayed in a clear jar, workers ate 2 1/2 pieces of candy a day more than when the chocolates were in an opaque container.

Very interesting :)

Do you need to start a separate nutrition blog? :)
