Preston's birth story, not that we could ever forget it, but a memory of the details.
At my 40 week appointment, on my due date June 1st, 2015, Dr. Spencer told me he was going to be out of town the next week so he wanted to induce me the end of the week. We had changed insurance companies earlier in the year so we could deliver at Mckay Dee Hospital, due to them having a better NICU, but you can't be induced there unless you are 41 weeks. So, we scheduled an induction date at Davis Hospital for Thursday, June 4th at 4:00pm.
I didn't go to work on Thursday and just tried to rest and relax. Jordan and I went to lunch at Zupas and hung out the rest of the afternoon.
Being admitted!
Jordan wanted to capture the last of the belly.
We waited and waited and waited. I was admitted at 2 cm dilated and 90% effaced, but stayed that way for hours. Baby did not like the Pitocin. The first time they started the Pitocin at 4ml/hr, baby's heart rate dropped from 140 to 60. They shut off the IV and let baby rest for 30 minutes. The next time they turned on the IV, they started it lower at 2ml/hr and baby tolerated it well here. Pitocin at 2ml/hr doesn't speed anything long anytime fast.
The IVs really were the worst part. The epidural didn't hurt as much as I thought it would but the effects of it drove me crazy. I couldn't stand being numb for so long and not being able to move.
At about 3:00, I finally dilated to a 5 and to an 8 at about 6:00 am June 5th.
Jordan was the best cheerleader and we had a long night in Labor and Delivery room #5!
Finally they started preparing the room for baby's arrival and it was time to push.
It's go time!
When the doctor first saw his head, he asked Jordan and I, "Did you order a baby with a full head of hair?" YES! We did! Thank you heartburn for 7 months.
After 1 hour and 45 minutes of pushing, the vacuum, and finally the forceps, Preston was born! He was bigger than I was expecting and we fell in love with his dark hair. We were so glad we didn't end up having to do a c-section. The doctor gave me one last push while he used the forceps, and that's all the little guy needed!
