San Francisco {Day 1}

We took advantage of the 3-day weekend last week and went to San Francisco!

We took the first flight of the day, Saturday morning with Southwest.  We had booked these tickets months in advance when Southwest was having great deals to SF! We got roundtrip tickets for under $100.

Amazing view from the plane.

We took the BART to our hotel in Union Square.  Our hotel had a great location, as the BART stop was right outside the hotel's entrance.

We didn't waste any time and took a cable car into Fisherman's Wharf.

For lunch we got some clam chowder in bread bowls.... YUM!

Pier 39 sea lions

We watched these planes write in the sky.

We had no idea it was Fleet Week and the Blue Angels fly over over the weekend! We watched the air show on the grass by Ghirardelli Square.

It was actually such a busy weekend in SF.  Apparently, there are 850,000 residents in SF and this weekend they had 1 million visitors!

You can only sit in Ghirardelli Square for so long before you start craving chocolate!

So fun to watch them make homemade waffle bowls.

Watching the air show.

Next stop, Lombard Street.

We booked tickets to the Alcatraz night tour.

The ferry ride to get over to Alcatraz Island provided some great views of San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Jordan looking into the window for inmates to visit with visitors.

Jordan sitting in one of the cells.

A great night view of SF!

The hospital's operating room. Yikes!

The x-ray room.

On the ferry ride back over to the city, we watched fireworks on the Bay Bridge,

Short story: Public Transportation was so packed when trying to get back to our hotel that we ended up having to take a limo back to our hotel! Desperate times calls for desperate measures :)

Long story: We had purchased 3-day SF transportation passes for $20 to use all the cable cars, buses, muni's we wanted. Great deal right? Except it was such a crazy busy weekend in SF that all the listed forms of transportation were completed packed! We waited over an hour and watched two buses drive right past the bus stop because it was already too packed with people.  It was too late and the cable cars weren't running.  So we walked over to the Taxi line and stood behind 20 people to wait for a taxi.  In the meantime, a complete stranger walks up to us and asks if we want a ride in his limo instead of waiting. Of course I said no, and Jordan said yes so we went. In all reality we probably had another hour wait for a taxi. So we had an awesome ride in a strange man's limo back to our hotel with 8 other strangers hahaha. I'm still laughing about this.

Reminds me of our New Orleans limo. And love your expression in the Alcatraz prison cell. Sounds like a wonderful and perfect 3-day vaca!
