Santa Anita Horse Races

We spent this past Saturday at the Santa Anita Horse Race Track and had such a great time! It was our first time at a horse race so it took us a few races to figure out what was going on exactly. Luckily we sat by some regulars who taught us a thing or two.

It was a beautiful day outside and what a great location and view!

Seabiscuit won his first race at the Santa Anita Race Tracks in 1937.

You can walk around before each race and see the horses get ready with the trainer, owners, and jockey. You can see Bob Baffert with his horse in stall #1.

We were so excited when we saw him! He is a celebrity in horse racing. Below are some of the horses he has trained.

  • Silver Charm (1997 Kentucky Derby)
  • Real Quiet (1998 Kentucky Derby)
  • War Emblem (2002 Kentucky Derby)
  • Silver Charm (1997 Preakness S.)
  • Real Quiet (1998 Preakness S.)
  • Point Given (2001 Preakness S.)
  • War Emblem (2002 Preakness S.)
  • Lookin At Lucky (2010 Preakness S.)
  • Point Given (2001 Belmont S.)
Mike Smith, also a celebrity in the horse racing industry! He has ridden many horses in the top races.

Mike Smith winning the Stakes Race with Ambazombie, who will now go on to race in the Breeder's Cup in April.
We finally built up the confidence in the 7th race to start bidding. We each placed a $2 bid on our favorite horse to win, and Jordan's won! My horse was ahead the entire race, and then Jordan's horse won by a nose at the last second.
On his $2 bet, he won $7! What a great rate of return! Forget investing money into our 401k's at work, we're investing all our money in horse racing!
This was my horse I bid on, Victoryasecret. Right after I placed my bid for her to win, I knew I should have bid for her to place second, and I would have been right! This was Jordan's horse, All Star Heart.
If I would have gone with my gut feeling and bid Jordan's to win and mine to place, we would have won $13.30 on our $2 bet, dang it!

Definitely a fun day at the race track!

Glad you had a good time. We've had fun at our races here, and we were lucky once, and very unlucky the net time. So keep your money in the 401K :)

And I didn't know you knew so much about horse racing and the "celebrities."
