Obese mom: "It's going to be difficult trying to make dinner every night for my family because I am going to have to make a healthy dinner for me and then something else for my kids."
Me: (basically tried to explain to her that her kids would benefit from healthy meals as well).
Obese mom: "Well that's not fair to them. I want them to enjoy their childhood. There is no reason for them to eat chicken and broccoli instead of chicken nuggets and french fries."
Me: (what I wanted to say) ... "Should we already schedule an appointment for your two kids to come in, in about 5 years?"

Side note: after most bariatric surgeries, its a gradual process of introducing foods into their diet (clear liquids, full liquids, pureed, etc..)
Me: (explaining the diet process after the surgery)
Guy: "Honestly I have no idea what you mean when you say pureed foods. So could I just puree my McDonald's cheeseburgers?"

Side note: as mentioned in my last post, when patients are interested in getting the lap band I discuss how they can no longer drink carbonation.
A dad brought his 4 year old with him to his initial consultation.
Me: "After the lap band procedure, its important you no longer consume carbonated beverages such as soda or beer."
4 year old kid: "No more beer! But I love beer, my grandpa gives me beer!"
(The dad shoved the kid to stop talking)
4 year old kid: "Don't worry dad, its my other grandpa."

Holy cow. I am still amazed by these comments. Didn't the 2nd guy realize that he should probably avoid McDonald's complete?
WOW the poor children of #1!!
By the way, I am doing bariatric counseling once a week. I'm interested to know what you do exactly... maybe we should chat over lunch sometime ;)
